Side By Side
New works by Moira Kirkwood & Martin Ison
Chronic art debaters Moira and Martin have now put their ideas side by side in their first show together.
Martin has produced watercolours of industrial environments as well as local seascapes; prints of small, intensely coloured felt-tip drawings with a surreal edge; and carefully observed drawings of the figure.
Moira's paintings and drawings are 'all about relationship': an ongoing theme over the past decade of her practice. The forms and figures in her work invite a narrative to develop in the mind of the viewer.
For this show the artists have also produced a collaborative work called 'Art Conversation'. This 25 piece work was inspired by "The One Year Drawing Project" featured in this year's Asia-Pacific Trienniale in Brisbane. A variation on the 'Exquisite Corpse' game of the Surrealists, in Moira and Martin's hands it has become an engaging conversation. Each had a one-week turnaround time to respond to the artwork of the other, and this has been continued over several months to produce a considerable body of work.
