Surf & Sea is an exhibition showcasing artists exploring their connection to the sea.
I've chosen artists whose work is born from direct experience of particular place, the sea itself and the coastline. They include Tony Hull, Brenna Quinlan, John Skuja, Britta Stenmanns, Tanya Stubbles, Melanie Duncan, The Me Collective - Jones, Frost, Lepre and Xavier, Anita Larkin and Sue Smalkowski.
Surf & Sea is part of Viva la Gong for 2010 and Project Contemporary Artspace will be the host venue for music and dance performances on Saturday 6th November from 1.30pm.

My work evolves through sketching and photographing bushland textures, underwater landscapes and coastal areas. I am drawn to these because I was immersed in these landscapes for most of my younger days. Wollongong Harbour and beaches and Erowal Bay(we called it Killarney) near Jervis bay on the South Coast, are the places where I spent the majority of my time as a child until going to University to study Art and teaching in Wagga Wagga.
I worked as a Studio Potter near Gosford for many years designing and producing tableware and exhibition pieces. Returning to Wollongong 10 years ago, I am now working with oils, acrylics and sculptures using clay, mixed media and found objects. My paintings express my personal interpretation of a subject that people can identify with, and are encouraged to then interpret in their own way.
"As I work in my studio, I find myself on a journey. A journey that begins with the known; and discovers the unknown".
