The Wollongong Pictorial Mafia: from virtual to reality.
Wollongong Pictorial Mafia is a group of photographers, either based in Wollongong and the Illawarra or with strong connections to the region, who got together on the photo sharing website, flickr, two years ago.
We currently have 78 members (though only 15 are represented in this exhibition). The group is diverse, with ages ranging from early teens to over fifty, from newcomers to photography to seasoned veterans and with different photographic interests and styles, using both film and digital cameras.
Online photo sharing brought us together giving us the opportunity to not only pool our work but also share knowledge and experiences. With regular group outings (or 'hits') and meetings we also provide a forum for solving photographic problems or to conduct general photo chats.
One day someone suggested that we could exhibit our work in a gallery. Hanging our works on a wall is very different from posting them in cyberspace and we look forward to many more exhibits.
